Hello, my name is Gene Schmidt. I am humbled to serve as Superintendent
of Los Alamos Public Schools. LAPS has a long and proud tradition of
educational excellence. From its beginning, the mission of the Los
Alamos Public Schools has been to provide an excellent educational
program in support of the Los Alamos National Laboratory. There are
many features which make Los Alamos special. For example, our
instructional staffs are well grounded in research theories and best
educational practices. Teachers possess a strong content-rich knowledge
base from which to draw. Our administrative teams have embedded
leadership practices that work. They study our data and use this
information to guide their decision-making processes.
In addition, enrichment opportunities provided by the Los Alamos
National Laboratory generate unique and diverse career awareness
opportunities for our students. But the most important feature of all
is the value that parents and community place on public education.
Their generous contributions of time and resources make it possible to
provide high quality educational programming in all areas. Los Alamos
is and will continue to be one of the truly outstanding districts in
the nation.
My goal, as the new superintendent, is to continue to
improve the quality of instruction, and in the process, raise our
educational reputation even higher. I look forward to the day when Los
Alamos Public Schools is recognized as one of the premier schools in
the nation, if not the world.
