General Guidelines
1. The LAMS science department adopted new text books last school year. Your student has a copy to keep at home. We have a class set here at school.
2. Supplies for this class are a lab composition notebook with graph paper pages and pencil. A calculator and clear metric ruler are recommended, but not required.
3. All students and parents will sign a contract agreeing to the safety behavior expected from each student during lab.
4. Students should write class activities and homework in their agendas.
5. When students are absent, they are expected to complete ALL missed assignments in a timely manner. The student should check with the teacher upon returning.
6. All labs must be made up within a week of the absence. Lab reports are due the day after the make-up.
7. If a student is absent on the day an assignment is due, the assignment must be turned in on the day the student returns to school.
8. Grades are recorded in two categories: tests and quizzes (50%) and homework, class work and lab reports (50%). Within categories assignments may be weighted, e.g. a test will count 3x a quiz. The two quarter grades will be integrated to determine the semester grade.
9. Every student is responsible for any equipment he/she may break in class. A list of fees is posted in the lab.

To improve poor grades:
1. Proofread all work before submitting it; be sure it is complete. Put your name on your paper.
2. Certain major tests with a grade less than 80 may be re-taken during lunch help sessions at a date to be announced.
3. Make-up labs or classwork missed due to excused absence within one week of returning to school.
4. Attend help sessions during lunch (Monday through Thursday) or by appointment.
5. Avoid deductions for turning work in late.
