Welcome,

My grading system is a little different. For homework not turned in the students will receive a 2.5 instead of a 0. This is still an F, but will not unfairly penalize the students. If you have questions please contact me. A 5 means that the student understands the concepts and was able to complete the assignment. A 4 means that the student is still having some difficulty with the concepts. A 3 means that the student needs more practice and a 2.5 means that the concept is not understood at all or that the paper was not turned in.

The students will be given user names and passwords to log on to the Holt site. The Url is http://my.hrw.com/
If you need the log in information please email me at b.chigbrow@laschools.net

Here are two really good math web sites:

Coolmath.com  This site has games and explanation on how to do math.

http://tux4kids.alioth.debian.org/tuxmath/    Tuxmath is a free download. It has games like Space Invaders that help build fluency.

The students have all been given math books, but most of my homework comes from the chapter resource books. Your student will have homework every night except Friday. It will usually be a single or double sided sheet. I would like the students to spend 20-30 minutes on math a night. This can be finishing homework or reviewing the concepts that were covered in class. Math has very specific vocabulary and reviewing the vocabulary each night will help your student be more successful. If you student is struggling with an assignment, have them try to reread the directions, attempt some of the problems, and if they are still confused have them bring questions to class the next day.
