Volleyball - Hawks 7th & 8th
{Basketball Banner}
This was a terrific week for the Hawk volleyball teams. They both won their opening day games with victories. The Hawk's opened up their season by playing a tough Santa Fe Indian School Lady Braves. In the seventh grade games, they were able to pull out the victory in just two games. Both games were thrilling with both teams battling back and forth for the lead. You could see some of the jitters but they were able to shake them off. There was some great volleys by both teams. Coach Brewer and I were impressed that our team really tried to work on the bump, set, and spike. We had some people spiking that we thought would never try it in a game so that was great. The players were really trying to set each other up for the spike which in the first game of the season is great. Just imagine what we will look like by the end of the season. In the eighth grade game they took the victory in three games. After the first three serves of the first game the players shook of the nerves and settled down to play their game. We had some great plays at the net. The serving was pretty good which helped us out. In the second game, we fell behind quickly and tried to battle back but it was a little to late and they lost by a score of 25 - 15. In game three the momentum was definitely flowing the Lady Braves way but the Hawks were able to come away with a close victory of 15 - 12. Pecos- For the first bus ride of the season, the players and coaches both survived. I am not sure that we got off that bus ready to play. It was a rough outing but both teams came away with victories. In the first seventh grade game, it took the strong serving of Taylor Jaramillo to come in and finish off the game. Liz Anaya and Sarah Chiri were also able to stay consistant at the service line and provide the Hawks with some much needed points. There was some great setting from both Anaya and Morgan Hohner to set up some great spikes from Michelle Alexander and Brianna Montano. In the second game, the Hawks tried to slow the game down by subbing a little more. Allie Brown and Halie Aslin made some really nice saves and sets. Marissa Ronquillo and Hallie Street tried to connect on some spike attempts. Rachel Reynolds and Makaela Jones had some really nice forearm passes to their teammates. In the third game, there was some great plays at the net and both teams and some great volleys. The Hawks were able to come out with a victory. In the eighth grade game, the Hawks were able to walk away with victories in two games. Both games were thrilling. In the first game, Cristiana Vallejos, Sam Courtney, and Amber Logan were able to provide some consistent serving at the line. Catalina Chavez and Mariah Armijo had some great saves at the net. Marlie Maestas gave the Hawks some sparks in the back court. In the second game, it looked like it was going to go to a game three but the Hawks were able to win by two. We were able to come from behind and get this vicotry. In this game, we slowed the game down by trying to sub a lot. There was some great saves from Holly Aiken, Jordan Hammock, and Megan Armstrong. Everyone made a contribution in these victories.
The Hawks will play the Espanola Cardinals on Tuesday. There is no practice on Monday or school. Have a great weekend.
