The coaches for the 2009 season are Susan Hammock, Deb Larson, and Sarah Brewer. The
volleyball game for September 4th has been cancelled and rescheduled
for the 21st of September. The game against Alameda is still on but we
are playing Eldorado at Alameda's gym. First Game Report-The
volleyball team traveled to Santa Fe Indian School to take on the Lady
Braves. Unfortunately both teams suffered their first loss of the
season. In the seventh grade game the Hawks lost the first game by a
score of 25 - 21. It was a real close game. We had some great volleys
and some spike attempts. The score of the second game was 25 - 17. We
just couldn't get our serves over in this game. The players really
surprised us by attempting three hits and trying to set up the spike
attempts. Hopefully all of the butterflies will be gone for the second
home game next week. In the eighth grade game the Hawks lost both games
by a score of 25 - 19. Again we couldn't get our serves going to save
our life. We had some great volleys and spike attempts. The team also
had some really nice sets but we need to work more onthe strategy of
the game. The girls will be ready for their next home game. Second Game Report- The
seventh grade volleyball team played its second game of the season. The
Hawks went up aginst a tough Lady Panther team from Pecos. The seventh
graders lost a close first game by a score of 24 - 26. In that game
Jessica Heironimus and Cristiana Vallejos had a total of three kill
shots. Jordan Hammock and Amber Logan had several tip shots over the
net. In the second game the Hawks lost by a score of 25 - 19. Marlie
Maestas and Sam Courtney were able to give the Hawks some crucial
points from their serving. Paris Lynch and Holly Aiken also came up
with some key saves but it just wasn't enough to beat the Panthers. The
eighth grade Hawks played some exciting games. The Hawks were able to
come away with a win in both games. The score of the first game was 25
- 17 and the second was by a score of 25 - 8. The Hawks had a much
better serving outing then they had in their first season game. Micaela
Pigue, Anna Zerkle, Briana Romero, Hannah Cunningham, Alyssa Tedder,
Kaitlyn Pyle, and Sam Fenner all served aces which really helped in
this victory over the Panthers. Micaela Pigue, Ella O'Donnell, Sam
Fenner, and Kiana Zerr were able to rack up a few kill shots with some
excellent setting from Alli Hoog. These games were really fun to watch.
These girls really worked hard in practice this week and it showed. I would like to apologize for not keeping up with this page. I know how important it is for the kids to be recognize for a job well done.
7th Grade- The Seventh Graders took Fourth Place at the DeVargas Tournament. That is a real accomplishment. In the first game the Hawks were able to beat the Ortiz Hornets. In the second game they ran up against a tough DeVargas team. The Hawks went to three games but couldn't recover the momentum to beat them in the third game. The Hawks had some good serving but couldn't control their hits. It was the same for the third opponent. The Hawks went up against the Capshaw Falcons. Again it went to three games and they couldn't get the momentum to shift back in their favor. The girls had some nice plays but turned the ball over at the net. Jessica Heironomius was named to the All Tournament Team. Thanks for a great season. Please if you have not turned in your candy money please do so.
8th Grade-The Hawks took first place in the Ortiz tournament. In the first game the Hawks faced the Capshaw Falcons and were able to put them away in two games. In the second game the Hawks faced a tough Ortiz Hornets. It took three games to put them away. In the final game the Hawks took on the Pojoaque Elkettes, who had beaten the Hawks earlier in the season. It was some incredible volleyball in these games. The Hawks were asleep the first game but were able to come alive towards the end of the first game. The second game went to the Hawks. In that game the Hawks were able to slow the game down and play at their own tempo. There were some incredible plays at the net. Alyssa Tedder had an incredible block at the net. The Hawks were able to keep the momentum and win the thrid game. It was an incredible game and what a way to end a season.
If the girls still have candy money could they please turn it into Mrs. Larson in the main office. We will be having our end of the year party on October 26th. Please come and enjoy some pizza and cake with your daughters. Thank you for your support during the season.
