{Armed Drill}
| State Competition , UNM April 17, 2010
The cadets ended the year on a high note in competition!! With all the distractions of Prom and late substitutions the shooting and drill teams still did very well against 31 other schools last Saturday at the State Competition. Here is how they finished: Shooting Precision - 2nd in Navy Competition and 6th overall Sporter – 2nd in Navy Competition Drill Male Color Guard – 4th Overall Armed Drill Inspection – 4th Overall Armed Drill – 3rd Overall Zachary Breshears aka Gazelle won first place overall in the ½ mile run!!! All the teams looked great in my opinion and all should have placed in the top 5. Next year we will work on the little things that should put us over the top!!

| United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs 2010
The Los Alamos High School NJROTC took 37 cadets to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs over the weekend to compete against 16 other schools from six different states and included the University of Colorado, Embry Riddle University, and the United States Air Force Academy Prep School (stiff competition). Friday the cadets received a tour of the Academy and had a chance to see the Field House, Dorms, Chapel, and other various points of interest. On Saturday the competitions began and your Cadets were all business. The female, male and mixed color guards finished 2nd, 4th and 5th respectively, all within 3 points of each other. The Armed drill team finished 2nd in the inspection phase of the competition with many accolades and comments of praise from the head judge. I know I mention this in every e-mail after an event, but that is because it’s true…Your cadets were a pleasure to be with. Several of the other instructors and parents from other teams were extremely impressed with not only the performance, but also the behavior of your son or daughter. Thank you for raising such respectful teenagers. Wish us well as the unit travels to Albuquerque to compete against 31 schools in the State Drill/Rifle and Physical Training Championships. Please encourage your cadet to come along and support all the teams! | {Colorguard Rep Party } {Rio Rancho Team}
| Color Guard Performs for the Republicans of Santa Fe County On February 13th, the Los Alamos High School NJROTC was invited to perform the opening Color Guard for the Republicans of Santa Fe County fundraiser dinner.
The four cadets, C/LCDR Veronica Saeger, C/LT Paige Ramsey, C/SCPO
Travis Brewer, and C/LT Megan McClure did a fantastic job in
representing Los Alamos High School and their JROTC unit. The cadets
once again performed exceptionally before a large audience and also met
with Pete Domenici Jr. and K.T. McFarland a National Security
commentator who appears weekly on FOX news. The NJROTC has also been
asked to perform at the opening ceremonies during the Democratic Gala
on March 13th.
RIO RANCHO COLOR GUARD CLEANS UP!!
One week later the NJROTC cadets traveled down to Albuquerque and competed against 15 other schools at the Rio Ranch Color Guard and Academic Competition and left with 11 trophies of which six were 1st place, four were 2nd place, and one was 3rd place.
Overall, the cadets won the Sweepstakes competition and the drill meet.
It is a credit to the way these teenagers are able to prepare for and
focus on a task at hand. The next competition for the drill teams will
be at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs on April 9th.
Wish them
luck!

| WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA (www.wreathsacrossamerica.org)
December 12, 2009
Saturday six cadets along with three parents attended the Wreath's Across America Ceremony at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. This was in my opinion, one of the best events we've been a part of this year. Our unit received a lot of exposure and impressed a lot of people! Our group was one of the first to arrive and was asked to post the colors for the ceremony. The group scheduled to attend showed up late so our cadets, being there early and with color guard gear was asked to step in. There were many officials from around the state both in government (which included the Mayor of Santa Fe) and the different military branches. Also attending were many news organizations that were clicking away photos of our cadets during and after the event. The New Mexican took and added interest and followed our group for the wreath laying. May officials later came up and told us how impressed they were with our group. Not only was this great for our unit to be involved in, it turned out to be one of the best events to be a part of to honor our fallen soldiers. Our cadets were respectful, well trained and ready to step in when asked. These cadets stood in FREEZING cold temperatures with out coats or gloves and never once complained. They too, thought it was a wonderful event to be a part of. As a final note, please check out the website above, and plan to attend what I hope will be an annual event for our unit. -Jana McClure

| AMI AND AREA 9 UPDATE December 2009
The cadets of this unit have accomplished some unbelievable
things in the past week. First, the Area Manager Inspection was a huge success.
We had 77 out of 82 cadets present and CDR Dial was extremely impressed once
again with your cadets saying “when I think of Los Alamos, I think of
smart, responsible, dedicated cadets that can do it all”; we are
definitely the most well rounded unit in the state. We proved that at the Area 9
Drill Meet over the weekend. We will know if we are a distinguished unit again
this year in late April or early May.
After the grueling day of giving briefs and being inspected,
the unit took 41 students down to Albuquerque on Saturday
to compete in our area’s drill meet, and this how they finished that
extremely long day:
1st Place Academics
1st Place Color Guard (our female team)
1st Place Tug-O-War (brains and brawn)
2nd Place Overall Physical fitness
3rd Place Armed Drill
3rd Place Unarmed Drill
3rd Place 16x100 Relay 3rd Place 8x220 Relay
To come away from a meet that had as stiff as competition as
this one with (8) trophies is remarkable!!!
Please congratulate your cadet’s on their
accomplishments the next time you have a chance!!

| We had 73 out of 76 cadets show up for this event, a new unit record for participation. The inspectors were very impressed with the knowledge, confidence, and poise that everyone showed during the personnel inspection. The ceremony went extremely smooth to the point of almost seamless, with CMDR Hunt commenting on what a well drilled and disciplined unit we have here. Our staff did an outstanding job of presenting themselves, their goals, and responsibilities to the inspectors and they (the inspectors) left here wishing that the college NROTC cadets were as well spoken as ours. We want to send special thanks to Jana Beery and Lynn Zollinger for the help they gave us during this potentially stressful time.
