Parade Information

The Homecoming Parade will be held on Friday, September 27th. Completed  HOMECOMING PARADE APPLICATIONS and payments are due to the Los Alamos High School Bookkeeper by 4:00 pm on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024. The fee for all float/vehicle entries is $20 and $15 for walkers.  Checks may be made payable to LAPS. Online payment is available through HomeTown Fan.

The parade will begin at 2:30 pm starting at the Canyon Complex parking lot, proceeding down Central Avenue to Rose Street. Judges will be seated outside the post office.

Staging begins at 1:30 pm at the Canyon Complex parking lot. DO NOT ENTER THE LOT BEFORE THIS TIME. Enter via Canyon Road and 4th Street.

Walkers should be dropped off at the Mari Mac parking lot.  Access to Central Avenue and 4th street will be closed at the roundabout before the parade kickoff, please use crosswalks to cross the street before that time.  Walkers should congregate on the Central side of Mari Mac lot to be introduced into the parade between floats.

Lanes will be set up for the floats and vehicles in the Canyon Complex parking lot.   Floats and vehicles should use Canyon and 4th to access the lot.  Once reaching the parking lot vehicles will be directed into the appropriate lane.  Please do not arrive at the lot earlier than 1:30 pm in order to not block the lanes before they are established.  Floats and vehicles may not be parked at the Canyon Complex lot before 1:30 pm.

Parade Information:

  • Floats will be staged in the order in which they arrive at Canyon Complex parking lot.  DO NOT ARRIVE OR PARK YOUR VEHICLE BEFORE 1:30PM!
  • All vehicles should enter the staging lot via 4th Street.
  • Walkers can stage on the end of the Mari Mac Parking Lot.   Instruct walker or float rider participants/parents/guardians to park/drop off at the Mari Mac Lot via Trinity to minimize traffic. Use crosswalks to cross the street. 4th street and Central Avenue will both be closed at the roundabout before the parade steps off, but may still be open prior to the parade.
  • Any improper language or suggestive graphics will be removed from floats before the parade.
  • Floats and walkers will proceed down Central Avenue to Rose Street.  Floats can offload their riders at any location after Rose Street.  Please make arrangements with your float riders and walkers to determine where they will meet their rides home.
  • LAHS administration reserves the right to remove a float or its participants from the parade if it feels there is an unsafe or inappropriate situation present.
  • Please remember that the Homecoming Parade celebrates youth activities and their supporters within our schools and community.  Parade participants should remain focused on the intent of this event and refrain from using the parade for political or economic gain.

Participant Requirements: Failure to comply with requirements listed below may result in loss of privilege to participate in this and future Homecoming Parades.

  •  All drivers must be 21 or older and have a valid driver's license.
  • Do not park your vehicle in the Canyon Complex parking lot before 1:30pm.
  • Motorized entries that involve student riders are required to have four adults walking (two at front, two at rear) in order to ensure proper supervision and help keep the pathway clear.
  • The float sponsor or their adult designee is required to be with students during the parade.
  • Keep the staging area clear of garbage and debris.
  • ·Keep walkers and float participants in the area to which they are assigned during staging.  There will be a lot of vehicle movement, students running from area to area is a safety issue.

  • Under no circumstances should participants in one entry interfere with participants in other entries.
  • All riders on floats must have something secure to hold on to. Do not overload floats or vehicles.
