Pinon Elementary School Construction

Los Alamos Public Schools, in partnership with Dekker Perich Sabatini Architects and Jaynes Corporation, is pleased to announce the start of construction of the new Pinon Elementary School. 

Construction of the new school building is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2025. Demolition of the current buildings will start afterwards.

Chamisa Elementary School Construction

Los Alamos Public Schools, in partnership with Dekker Perich Sabatini Architects and Jaynes Corporation, is pleased to announce the start of construction of the new Chamisa Elementary School. 

Construction of the new school building is scheduled to be completed by August 2025. Demolition of the current buildings will start afterwards.

White Rock Schools Construction

The Educational Specifications study was completed in September 2021. It included information on the potential student growth of the schools in White Rock. With that info and the recommendation of the PSFA, it was decided to replace the schools instead of remodeling them.

We started our search for an architect for these projects and chose Dekker, Perich, & Sabatini (DPS). Design of the schools started in January of 2022. DPS has done a wonderful job of designing and planning the two schools. They have worked closely with LAPS and our internal design team made up of the Superintendent, Facilities Director, Construction Manager, School Principals, Teachers, and School Board Members. DPS has completed the Programming Phase, Schematic Design, Design Development, and are now finishing up the Construction Documents. We have chosen a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), Jaynes Corporation as the contractor that will be building both schools.

Both schools will be an active campus through the construction of the new schools. Once the new school is finished, the students will move in and then the old school will be demolished. 

Construction of Pinon is scheduled to start  July 2023 and completion in 2025. Chamisa is scheduled to start construction in November 2023 and completion in 2026. 

Cell Phone Tower

Los Alamos Public Schools signed a lease agreement with Sun State Tower for installation of a cell phone tower at Pajarito Complex, 3400 Arizona Avenue

• Projected build start date: October 16, 2023
• Projected build completion date: mid-late December 2023
